Mukuru Kwa Njenga is one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements. It is home to over 100,000 residents who live in challenging conditions despite the odds stacked against them: poverty, limited access to resources, and overcrowded schools.

I have worked with these incredible young individuals from this community for the last five years and have watched them defy expectations and excel academically. Achieving top grades and working harder than some of us can imagine.

These twelve students are not just statistics but future leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Among them are aspiring doctors, lawyers, chefs, and professionals who dream of getting the opportunity many of us take for granted. Every child deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams and unlock their full potential, and where you are born should not determine where you end up.
