They’re running because I can't!

Hey everyone!

Before we get into why I need your help, here’s a little bit about me: My name is Molly. I’m 21 years old and I have a condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. I have lived with my condition for my whole life and for the last 8 years, I have been a full time wheelchair user. Although for the most part, I haven’t let this hold me back in day-to-day activities, I was advised by the team of medical professionals that I am in touch with to start using a manual wheelchair with power-assisted wheels as a means of exercise and independence. The catch? Wheelchairs are super expensive!

Though I have been fortunate enough to receive a partial grant from a charity, I’ve still got a long way to go in order to be able to buy the chair that would grant me the independence I need to exercise, visit friends and (hopefully, one day) go travelling in.

So, this is where my friends come in: I met Shannon when she applied to be my carer when I started university in September 2021 and I met Lilly a matter of days after whilst on my first night out in Liverpool. Flash forward to now, we are completely inseparable and make quite the team! The girls decided they wanted to help me fundraise so that I can buy the equipment I need (though it would be cool if they could just give me the money themselves!). So, despite their lack of experience, they’ve set themselves a goal to run a 10k this year and they’re looking for sponsors! Any donations would mean the absolute world to me and the girls would be so grateful knowing that their inevitable blood, sweat and tears would’ve been worth it.

Any donations between now and their run on 16th November would be greatly appreciated and if we manage to raise more than my target, I would love to be able to donate to SMA UK as they are a charity that have helped me so much over the years.
