THE WALKING QUAD - My Walk of Hope
ONE COULD NEVER BE READY FOR THIS!
In 2000, I moved to London, England to work as a spiritual coach for Media Executives. My ‘job’ was to spend time with people, ask them guided questions, and assist them to discover 'STILLNESS' in their over busy (and I must add, extremely successful) lives.
Almost a decade later, in 2008, I realized that I wasn't feeling the 'peace' that I was helping others achieve. As I was aiding others to awaken in their spirit, I was feeling a subtle, yet growing atmosphere of numbness in my own world. My marriage was stagnating; my 10-year-old son was watching ‘my footsteps not match my conversations’. I needed to face myself with my own words. I needed to walk beyond the familiar cognitive and the linear emotional boundaries of my western religious upbringing. I needed to make a drastic change.
I DECIDED TO ENTER A SILENT MONASTERY FOR 2 MONTHS.
Thirty one days before I embarked on my monastic venture, a life changing event found its way into my world. I WAS INVOLVED IN A SEVERE MOUNTAIN BIKE ACCIDENT. I fractured my C4 & 5 vertebrae and was left QUADRIPLEGIC. Within the first few minutes after the accident, the reality of what had happened grabbed me. I had been longing for ‘stillness’ and now my wish had been granted. I WAS STILL, oh, I was very STILL! So still that I couldn’t move a single muscle below my neck.
My tragedy could've been just that, a sad tragic event. But these past few years, I've learned that my accident has become a doorway to a world full of miracles, joy, hope, recovery, and healing. I've decided to write a book about my journey of recovery. I want to share my experiences with the world in the wish that people will taste the same hope I discovered as I faced the darkest time of my life. WALK WITH ME AS I WRITE THE STORY OF AN 'UNEXPLAINABLE' RECOVERY!
