The Walk for A²
Donation protected
For the past 3 years, I have participated in Alex's Great State Race. Alex Powell was a bright student at Michigan State University who, although was diagnosed with a rare cancer, was determined to live his life to the fullest. The Great State Race is an annual 64-mile relay race from the Big House to Spartan Stadium, or vice versa in honor of Alex after he passed.

This past summer, Atharva Kharkar passed away from Leukemia. While I wasn't his closest friend, I was certainly touched by my limited interactions with him. I first met him at a networking event for a school club, and my interactions with him were only positive. He was a bright and kind individual who shared my interest in photography and video, although he was far more skilled. He certainly had talent too as evidenced by his Youtube channel !
Unfortunately, I am unable to run this year due to a hamstring injury. So what can I do instead? I will be marching from East Lansing to Ann Arbor with 35 lbs on my back. The 64-mile journey will be tough, but it will be nothing compared to the pain these two brave individuals and their families went through.
All proceeds will be donated to the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer. I am working on contacting foundations to match donations.
Start: Breslin Student Events Center, East Lansing - Thursday, Nov 14 @6am
End (tentative time): Flagpole in the Diag, Ann Arbor - Friday, Nov 15 @3pm
The route I will be walking: ROUTE
About me:
I am from Troy, MI and a senior at the University of Michigan studying from Computer Science. I'm also in Army ROTC, and I will be commissioning as an active-duty officer in the United States military in May 2020. I was motivated by my friend Aaron Lai, who walked 100 miles from Purdue to Indiana in memory of Tyler Trent.
Inspired by Aaron, Alex, and Atharva's sacrifices, I hope to support the Rogel Cancer Center in order to ensure that no other family and friends have to go through the loss of a loved one ever again.
