Hello Family, Friends, and Future Friends! My name is Dr. Veronica Duncan Walters. I am a first generation college graduate who went on to get my Ph.D. in communication. I grew up in a 3 room house with no indoor plumbing in Kentucky, but I got a Ph.D. How? I had people who believed in me and mentored and coached me out of a cycle that has kept many in my hometown stuck. I taught college for almost 30 years and passed those lessons on to my students regardless of age, race, religion, orientation or any other category you want to use.
It hurt me to see my students stuck in generational cycles of lack and not enough to the point they couldn't focus on getting their education. I discovered some flaws in the traditional educational system from pre-school to college. Students struggling to get student loans that would continue to haunt them and still struggling to pay them off.
I am called to be an educator and I do that daily. Now I have launched a private school for entrepreneurship, Walters Academy for Entrepreneurship, for grades 5-12. It is an alternative to traditional education. We incorporate technology, discipline, and entrepreneurship. We produce WAE Warriors (Warriors for Academic excellence and Entrepreneurship)! Young people who will start their own business, learn leadership skills, get discipline through martial arts, and gain financial literacy. We produce Warriors!
We need your help! We need to raise $20,000! Please help us change the lives of the next generation of young people. The school is open to everyone but we are particularly targeting African American youth and males in particular to give them another way of viewing the world.
This matters to me because I am the mother of 7 children and I have many more that I did not give birth to but still belong to me. The truth is we have to stop expecting other people to do it for us. It is time for us to raise up warriors who are self-sufficient, self-determined, community-minded, leaders and entrepreneurs.
This year one of our youthpreneurs businesses has found an investor! Congrats Adam W. and Jaylen R. of KHAOS Kustoms! See Adam's interview with Vanessa Rende of Huffington Post here http://bit.ly/AdamWVTV! Visit their FB page at https://www.facebook.com/KHAOSKUSTOMSBrand/! A pair of brothers started their company and online store! Congratulations Derrick B. and Darian B.! Visit their online store at http://bit.ly/2v3vERa! You see we have PROOF that we can produce youthpreneurs with viable business ideas and follow through. Help us help them!
Your investment will be an investment in the lives of these youth! And every dollar counts! We need funds for sudent scholarship and to find the place for us to expand! If you see the value in what we are doing and you believe that we need to make a change in our youth to change the world, then I challenge you to give to this campaign. If I have every poured into your life, fed you when you were hungry, provided you with a place of rest, or given you a HUG when you needed one, then I challenge you to sow into this great vision.
Together we can change the world! Let's start now!
