CASSIE SAID SCOTT DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS ACCOUNT OR HIS EMPLOYMENT STATUS. THEY HAVE KEPT IT FROM HIM BECAUSE IT WOULD DEVASTATE HIM AND ADD STRESS TO HIS BRAIN.

Hi, My name is Michelle Swiger and I am a friend and neighbor of the Stark Family. Scott was recently involved in a terrible accident resulting in head trauma and multiple injuries. Scott was the sole provider of the family and carried the insurance. Due to changes where he worked he is currently laid off and has received his last paycheck. He will receive one additional payment for accident and sickness but will be significantly less than his regular pay and the S&A will end this month. Also, with the changes in his workplace, all prescription charges are currently paid out of pocket with possible reimbursement at a later date. His medical treatment and prescriptions are adding up. Currently due to the care of Scott, Cassie cannot leave home to find work at this time. Cassies is doing all she can to take care of the family but one can only imagine what financial stress on top of all that is going on can do to the family. This family would do anything they could to help out others and have done so in the past. I have started this Gofundme page so that we can all show our support and help this caring family in their time of need. Below is the story in Cassie's own words. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions and thank you for your support of this family.
From Cassie: On Saturday, October 24th, we were all enjoying our last hours of fishing at our Family camp in Smokehole. Before heading home Scottie had a near fatal accident. He was side by side with Mason, when he fell, and landed on the road and hit his head on numerous rocks causing a variety of head trauma issues. His skull was split open and blood was running out of his right ear. Mason was there and witnessed this. There is no cellular service in the remote area, which caused us to rush him to the nearest medical location 40 minutes away. Upon arrival, he received 8 staples in the top rear of his skull and was advised Health Net was called in to transport him to Ruby Memorial which is approximately 3.5 hours away. Due to inclement weather, health net was unable to transport therefore he was taken by ambulance from Garrett Memorial to Ruby Memorial. Once at Ruby and after numerous extensive testings, scans, and examations, the following injuries were exposed:
Multiple facial fractures, frontal lobe fracture and sinus cavity fracture, crushed right inner ear canal, 8 staples in his skull, bruising on the brain and bleeding on the brain, and blood clot on the brain. The first 48 hours were hours were life or death - * God's love, the finest doctors in multiple department and with His will to survive, Scottie was given a second chance at life. Although he has a long rough road ahead, he is alive and the strongest man I know. On Tuesday, 4 days after the initial fall, we were advised the "medically no other treatment can be done" therefore, the trauma unit advised he would be "dismissed". Upon final testing before dismissal, we were notified that after monitoring and numerous EKG's , Scottie's heart was now a concern. With a heart rate in the mid thirties to mid forties, then fluctuating to a normal range, he was not dismissed from hospital, but closely monitored by the cardio team for 24 hours. He was sent home with a heart monitor which will monitor and transmit his heart rate/pace, then reviewed upon his follow-up with the Heart Institute. On day 11th day after the accident, he received a clean report from his trauma team- all staples were removed and we were advised to continue his rest and avoid anything that would put stress on his brain until his follow up with the Neurology team the following week. He has an appointment Monday, Oct 9th with his ENT, Neurology to follow up with his crushed inner ear canal, which is still bleeding. As long as CSF does not begin flowing out his ear, the bleeding is a sign of relief of pressure on the brain . This may be the longest recovery part and high probability of hearing loss. On Tuesday, Oct 10th, he returns to the same department, seeing a different treating physician who will review his CT scan, (taken same morning) which will then advise us of his status on bruising and bleeding on the brain as well as his blood clot.
It's a very long road of recovery ahead of us all and taking the best care of Scottie should be our only focus...however, it is not.
Due to his employer being purchased by a new owner, many changes have been made. The day after we were due to leave camp he was to sign employment papers, due to current company being purchased by another, when
Our insurance has changed, our prescription costs have changed, his employment status has changed and so on. Our insurance will only last for 90 days, all prescription's for all family members, are paid out of pocket and reimbursed at a later date, possibly after January 2016. Just ONE prescription for him totaled $478.00. We were only able to purchase a week of the medicines, in order have money to pay bills and mortgage. He has received his final regular working paycheck and will receive Sickness and Accident pay. However, it will be a significantly lower amount of income. He was our sole support of income, supporting a family of 4. With the care he needs, I cannot leave outside the home to obtain employment as of yet, therefore, we know have an extremely minimal income. Due to his accident, He was unable to report to work on Sunday, Oct 25th , therefore, he was placed on "the panel", better known as laid-off.
