Seven years ago, Skylar's life changed forever.

At just 19 years old, she was driving home after leaving college when she was involved in a devastating car accident. During the scans for her injuries, doctors discovered malignant tissue in her thyroid. What followed was radiation treatment that was supposed to solve one problem—but instead marked the beginning of a seven-year medical battle that no one could have predicted.

Since then, Skylar has endured a relentless cycle of medical emergencies, hospitalizations, debilitating fatigue, seizures, stomach paralysis, heart complications, breathing issues, and countless symptoms that continue to evolve. She has spent years searching for answers, traveling to specialists, becoming a patient at Mayo Clinic, and fighting through a medical system that still hasn't been able to fully explain everything happening inside her body.

Through it all, she's never stopped trying to live.

She has repeatedly returned to work, pushed herself to build a normal life, and refused to let chronic illness define her. But every time she begins to regain her footing, another flare, hospitalization, or medical setback forces her back to square one.

Earlier this year, everything escalated.

Skylar suffered a rare thyroid storm that left her hospitalized for weeks. She later lost the ability to speak after a severe reaction to medication, has struggled to maintain healthy oxygen levels, now relies on supplemental oxygen, and has accumulated more than $30,000 in medical debt in just the past few months after aging out of her parents' insurance.

The heartbreaking reality is that the biggest obstacle standing between Skylar and better care isn't hope—it's access.

There are specialists and clinics that focus on complex autoimmune and chronic illnesses, but they require thousands of dollars up front. She also needs legal representation to help secure disability benefits, ongoing medical care, oxygen and other essential equipment, and the financial stability to focus on healing instead of simply surviving.
