Thesis Film: "This Is Not a Pipe"

As many of you know, I am entering my last semester at Brooklyn College. Complications due to the coronavirus pandemic have caused some setbacks and made planning for my shoot more difficult, but not insurmountable! I will be entering my final Spring semester at the end of this month and will shoot my thesis on February 5th, 2021.
I left university in 2014 on a medical withdrawal, for a variety of reasons, though, at the time, I wasn't doing or studying what I loved: film. I had always intended to return to school and finish my undergraduate degree and, four years later, I moved to New York and transferred to Brooklyn College in the fall of 2018 to do just that. Being able to complete my degree and shoot this film is the resolution for a journey that started so long ago for me.
My path has not been the most direct and, for many artists, this is a familiar situation one might experience. Having quit school for so many years already, returning was with great effort and a lot of self-doubts. My film explores that. "This Is Not a Pipe" is surreal, yet grounded in something all artists have felt before—the existential dread of pursuing your passion; being surrounded by great art yet unable to find success, and questioning whether or not this is the correct path to take. Not only must the lead character contend with the type of artist she wants to be, but she must come face-to-face with art itself and confront it—everywhere she goes, Magritte's "The Great War" haunts her.
Funds raised for this film will be used to secure locations, move the film company around the city, rent necessary equipment, and pay my artisans for their work and contribution—my dressmakers, florists, artists. Like any great production or artistic piece of work, there is me and numerous others who helped lift me and bring my vision to fruition.
