My friend J's wife died in December after receiving poor medical treatment, and she left him solo-parenting five lovely children. Rebels invaded his area of Congo, and he fled across the border to Burundi, where they are all struggling to find stability. The kids have just started school again in a new town, and J is struggling to find work to feed and educate the kids -- in one of the poorest countries in the world.

Their shoddy living conditions are making the kids more susceptible to illness, which then brings its own costs for treatment. Their landlord is threatening to throw them out for late rent, and J doesn't know where he would go next.

Everyone is doing their best to be brave together, but J seems pretty overwhelmed.

I am hoping to raise some funds for J and his family - you can see two of his adorable daughters in the video - so that they can get a small house and parcel of land to farm instead of being stuck in this dire poverty trap. Just the basics to start out - it makes more sense and will be a lot cheaper than piecemeal support that never lets them get on their feet.

J is passionate about the environment and youth education, and he has done some wonderful work getting young people fired up about taking care of the land.
