Hi everybody! We are The Rusty Pieces, a new band out of Memphis, TN. We are so excited to be sharing this amazing news with you.... we will be recording our debut album "Broken Parts" at the legendary Royal Studios in Memphis. Even more exciting than that, 2016 Grammy Award winning sound engineer Boo Mitchell will be producer and sound engineer for the project!
We couldn't be more excited right now! In addition to winning a Grammy for Record of the Year (Uptown Funk-Bruno Mars), Mitchell has recorded everyone from Snoop Dogg to Elton John at the landmark studio which boasts legendary talents like Al Green, Chuck Berry, Buddy Guy, Bobby Blue Bland, Tina Turner, and Rod Stewart as recording alum. On top of all that, Boo Mitchell has a reputation for fairness, honesty, and integrity in Memphis and beyond.
One week ago we convinced Boo to give us five minutes of his time. We had written a song called Broken Parts, and we really felt like it could be a hit. We all sat down together in the control room at Royal and, without too many words being said, we went straight into the song. We held out the last note then held our breath. As the guitar faded into silence Boo hung his head for what felt like an eternity. His head was shaking left to right. Our hearts sank a bit. Then he lifted his head and spoke. “That was dope! That's a hit song!” Two songs later... “I would definitely like to produce your album.” We went on to play a total of four songs for Boo that night, three of which he believes are potential radio hits. And hey, who are we to argue? He immediately started talking about brass sections, Hammond B3 organs, budgets and time frames and we thought “Wow! This is really happening!” Boo went on to tell us that, in order to get the kind of high caliber talent that he wants to bring in for the project (Al Green organist Charlie Hodges popped into the studio during the meeting) we're going to need $20,000. Considering the resume of the man and of the studio, this is a bargain price. Of course the actual manufacturing of the cd's and packaging will require additional funds to the tune of $2,000.
This opportunity was created through endless hours of hard work and dedication to our craft and is a dream come true for us! We are determined to make the most of it! Six months ago we sold most of our earthly possessions and moved onto a tiny little bus on the bank of the Mississippi so we could afford to pursue our dreams. That's right folks. We're living in a van down by the river! We are going all in on this; pooling savings, cashing in retirement funds, and selling what little material possessions we have left. We've come up with $13,500 and are reaching out to friends, family, fans, and music lovers everywhere to help us raise the remaining $8,500, hopefully by November 1st. Every penny we make above and beyond $8,500 will go toward promoting this album with every fiber of our beings. We won't rest until our music is heard by the world.
