Theresa Wheeler and Family

Hi, My name is Kelly Praska. I hope to raise funds for my dear friend Theresa Wheeler and her family. They are the type of family that NEVER ask for help; they are the ones helping others even when they are in dire straits. They probably would prefer I wouldn't even do this fundraiser for them and choose to ask for prayers from everyone, but they need some help due to the terrifying medical conditions affecting them.

You may be familiar with a small part of their story from 2020, when Theresa's husband, Bryan, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Which he is still battling, and it has become terminal. He is still doing chemo with insurance paying only a portion.

Unfortunately, that isn't where their health issues started or ended. Theresa has struggled with health issues most of her life, with little to no answers. In 2011 Theresa was diagnosed with Lupus. She also fought daily migraines. Then in 2021, Theresa was diagnosed with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and sent to multiple specialists in Iowa City. A neurologist started her on Ocrevus infusions for the MS at $69,000 per infusion, done twice yearly.

In the summer of 2022, Theresa was also recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. Of course, this leads to mental health strain, more medications to deal with, which themselves lead to more side effects, as well as depression, insomnia, and anxiety.  Theresa also struggles with insurance only covering portions of her healthcare needs and medication.

 

Every time one of them goes to the doctor, if it is just to Des Moines it is 40 minutes, which they have to do multiple times per week. That doesn't include monthly visits to Iowa City for specialist appointments. Time away from work, gas money, and they must pay $40 each for a co-pay. Additionally, they have co-pays for multiple meds each month for both of them. On top of that, they have two boys living with them at home.
