Theresa Cabrera's COVID-19 Recovery Fund

This campaign has been created on behalf of our sister Theresa Cabrera (54) who has been fighting the battle of her life. On April 11, 2020 Terri was admitted to Saint Clare's hospital in Dover, NJ with COVID type symptoms.  Six days later on April 17th she was moved to ICU, sedated, and placed on a ventilator. Test results later confirmed she tested positive for COVID. For Terri, who has struggled with asthma, the next three weeks became a battle for her life. For the family, it became a nightmare of worry and non-stop hospital phone calls combined with intense prayer.
 
Within days Terri’s kidneys began failing and she was placed on dialysis. Her doctors weren’t sure whether she was going to make it when the tide finally started slowly turning. She received a plasma transfusion from a former COVID patient whose antibodies were supposed to help her fight the virus. Initially nothing happened but slowly her vitals started improving. A week later her kidney’s started working again. This was followed a week later on May 12th when we received the amazing news that she was off of the ventilator! Then on May 21, almost 5 weeks after she had arrived, Terri was released from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility. Her hospital doctor said he considered her a small miracle as so many COVID patients who are on a ventilator for over 3 weeks don’t make it.

While Terri has beat COVID, her battle is not yet done. She has several weeks to months of rehabilitation ahead of her. She will have to deal with a number of expenses including significant hospital and rehabilitation bills.
