"There's Someone in the Bathroom," a Psychological Thriller

Hello! My name is Joel and I am fundraising for my film project, "There's Someone in the Bathroom," a short psychological film about a couple stalked by their doppelgangers.

Logline:

A couple, roused from sleep, are petrified to discover the intruder is a doppelganger, and must overcome their fear to defend themselves.

The idea is based off a memorable nightmare and I intend to emulate the cerebral and Lynchian tension as it was experienced. This will be accomplished with dark and floaty- yet constrained- cinematography, dream logic action, in-camera effects, and handcrafted prosthetic special effects.

I am using this project not only as a form of creative expression, but as a portfolio builder for my cast, crew, and I, who are all recent graduates or about to graduate from Northwest Vista College's Digital Video and Cinema Production program. Since graduating, we have been looking for opportunities to use our niche skills and build ourselves professionally while establishing ourselves in the local film scene.

The goal for this project is to submit to as many film festivals and networking opportunities as possible, namely the San Antonio Film Festival ($45 for a 2026 submission), Austin Horror Film Festival ($55), Austin After Dark ($60), ATX Showcase ($35) and many more. Each one of these have different deadlines with incremental prices to submit projects to, so any amount helps.

Below is a transparent breakdown of funding limits needed to go forward with the project:

1) Production Basics (paying the cast/crew) $1350

2) Department Costs (Special art/props) $2100

3) Post Production (Editing and Audio) $2600

4) Festival Submissions $3000 ($200 for above festivals + $200 more for other festivals)

5) $3000+ anything above the previous limit will be shared equally among the cast and crew, which will be closer to $4500.
