I’m fundraising for a physical theatre piece called “There is No Place”. With your support, I will travel to Ohio, Puerto Rico, DC, Spain, and India to study climate change and what’s being done to combat it. I'll collaborate with many artists, including Ainesh Madan in India, Linus Sherz in Germany, Meshake Lusolo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cadence Dubus and and Grace Cuny in the US. I will also be working with a group of scientists, including Dr. Xavier Espinet-Alegre in DC and David Litwin in Baltimore, Maryland, and Boulder, Colorado. In each of these places I will research and develop the work, teach dance classes, and share the body of work as it is made.
“There is no Place” is going to be a performance, an educational program, and a conversation, about what we can do to enact change in our environment. I’ll be learning from those I collaborate and research with about how I can be a part of a positive impact on our environment, I will be teaching dance classes to help articulate what I am learning from the scientists and artists that I meet, and developing a series of duets with my collaborators around the world. As this work develops, I’ll be giving free performances in the areas I travel to to illustrate the science and human impact of these issues. Towards the end of the process, I will be bringing all of my collaborators together to stitch the work together, and prepare it for performance. The process will take about year, and I hope to premier the piece next April.
