Hi I’m Kirsten, Arya’s partner.

Arya was involved in a serious motorbike accident and has been in Westmead hospital for the past 6 weeks, fighting a severe brain injury. He has had five theatre ops in this time, the most urgent to treat a brain bleed. But he also had fractures and elbow dislocations in both of his arms.

Arya’s condition was critical for the majority of the time we have been here, but he is finally stable. While he is now conscious, he has very limited awareness. Recently he has begun to follow small commands such as squeezing the drs finger, and intermittently responds to questions by nodding. This is the biggest win we have had in this journey and his progression, however small, continues to bring us so much happiness.

As he was not at fault, the insurance claim is a lengthy process. Since the accident I’ve been covering all of our shared expenses, including rent. I’m also trying to make him as comfortable as possible during his stay in hopsital. Mostly through toiletries and keeping The Lord of the Rings on repeat.
