We’re an outdoor pediatric occupational therapy clinic asking for help to expand our center to include an amazing therapy pool. Donate today to help us better serve clients like Cecilia. Meet snuggly Cecilia, a sweet 8 year-old girl who has Kleefstra syndrome. Through occupational therapy at OT Outdoors, we’ve seen Cecelia make huge gains in her development. Now she can climb onto a chair, sit upright, reach for toys, stand up, and walk with her walker.
Using a friend’s pool, we utilized aquatic therapy with Cecilia during the pandemic. The buoyancy of the water helped free up her movements, she made excellent progress, and she loved it! We have never seen her smile and giggle so much! She also amazed all of us with her ability to hold her breath underwater.
We want to build a pool at OT OuTdoors to provide Cecilia and our other patients with the aquatic therapy treatments they need. San Diego needs this resource!
Because of special therapy features, the pool is going to cost almost $200,000. We are deeply committed to adding a pool to help children, but we need help from you, our community. We will begin building the pool in summer 2022, and are hoping to complete construction and start providing aquatic therapy for patients in fall 2022.
We TRULY appreciate any amount you can share - NO amount is too small. While we hope to raise the full $200,000, we will add our own personal funds to whatever is raised because we believe that this is such an important therapy tool for our patients.
In addition to Cecilia, our patients include children and adolescents with a wide range of diagnoses and special needs, such as:
- Developmental delays
- Sensory processing disorder
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Cerebral palsy
- Spina bifida
- ADHD
- Rett syndrome
- DDX3X syndrome
- CLOVES syndrome
- Kleefstra syndrome

Our therapy pool must be accessible for everyone and meet each patient’s specific needs. So special details are necessary for the pool, like:
- A wheelchair ramp for accessibility
- Support railings to facilitate safety and independence
- Specialized benches
- Features like fountains to support sensory integration
- A strong, automatic sealing pool cover for safety
- Water of many different depths to support a range of therapeutic activities
- A changing room and bathroom

About OT OuTdoors
We are an outpatient occupational therapy clinic, owned by me, Carrie Jacobs, in San Diego, California. I have dedicated my life to providing occupational therapy services for over 20 years, working with children and families of all backgrounds, abilities, and disabilities. My team focuses on helping children improve their strength, endurance, coordination, balance, postural stability, emotional regulation, attention and focus, social skills, fine motor skills, handwriting, cognitive flexibility, and much more. These skills support activities that children need to do in their everyday lives, such as getting dressed, tying shoes, riding a bike, hanging out with friends, playing games at the playground, doing homework, and so on. We believe that children flourish and grow in a more natural environment than in a clinic, so we offer unique indoor and outdoor treatment spaces.
We even have horses right here on property, so our patients get to benefit from the skilled movement of the horse as a therapy tool, hippotherapy. We also have a CCI therapy dog on staff, whose use helps kids to increase their hand strength, short-term and long-term memory, ball skills, and visual spatial planning. The weightless environment of the pool will allow us to address client needs that we can't access with our other equipment. We can't wait to add the pool to our list of tools.
All of the unique aspects of OT OuTdoors create a rich environment ripe for moments of connection, learning, and “magic,” as staff members call it. Our facility creates “magic” moments when things “click” and connect for kids as they learn.
We need your help to build a therapy pool so we can create even more magical moments for Cecilia and all of our other patients as they learn and grow. Help us provide children with the treatment they need to thrive and flourish in their everyday lives.
We are deeply grateful for your support!
