My son Tanner was hit in the face with with a baseball back in October 2015. He was taken to the hopspita by ambulance and a CT scan was adone and it was found that he fractured his nose, cheek bone and eye socket, but that wasn't the only thing that was found. The scan revealed an Arteriovernousmalformation, an AVM which is a tangled mass of vessles where the veins and arteries meet, he was missing the capillaries that add oxogyn and slow the blood flow down, basically making him a ticking time bomb as his pediatrition said to us. We visited many nerosurgons trying to figure out the best way to deal with this and were told many differnt things, some said to elave it alone and not touch it, but in the same sentace that if this burst we wouldn't get a second chace to try anything because of the location and the size it would be instant death. We finally found a Dr a year and an half after the diagnosis in Manhatten that was confident that he could remove the AVM. He sent us to his collegue just to make sure that what he was seeing and what he was saying was correct. The Dr he sent us too said it absolutely could be done with emboziation first which is a cemtent type substance that is done an angiogram to block off the blood flow to make the surgery easier for the actual removal of the AVM. We schedueled the surgery for February 1 for the embolization which was done by the collegue we were sent too and the surgery was scheduled for February 3rd. Tanner suffered a minor stroke due to the embolization and lost his peripheral and was transfered to another hospital to see a nero-othalmologist to test his eye. The testing showed that his peripheral vision was gone. The Dr said that the surgery could not take place on the 3rd in order for his eyes to heal. The surgery was resceduled for February 24. The surgery was a success and the AVM is out!! Tanner was in rehabilitation center for a week and is now home recovering the rest of the way. Tanner need pt because his leg is numb from the surgery. He needs to get out and walk but because of the surgery he is having difficulty with his emotions at times. Can you imagine being told you are going to die, and then having surgery, and you are going to live. Just that emotional rollercoaster alone is difficult for him to swallow.Which brings me to my reason for starting this page. My sister found a dog that Tanner has seen, and really, really wants. It turns out the dog is ready for Tanner to have and to hold. The problem is is that its in Wisconsin, and we live in New York. I need help with pet relocation costs. I am asking for help with this, because I don't have it, and at the same time I know Tanner would forever be changed by this dog. He does not want a dog at the store here, he wants this dog. This dog would encourage Tanner to go out and walk, and would smile at Tanner when he comes home. We have reached out to several agencies that transport dogs, and they have quoted the price to be around 800-900 dollars. We are asking for extra so Tanner can take the dog to the vet, and get necessaries for her. Anything you can do would go a long way and be forever appreciated.
