Hello and thank you for taking the time to read Katie's story.
Katie is a very special girl who is having to overcome some difficult trials at this time. From the moment she started school she was bullied for being too quiet or too shy. She would cry because she didn't want to be at school and that just made the bullying worse. Her teachers, especially from the age of 6-8, would get cross at her for not speaking up in registration and didn't want to acknowledge the other children giving her a hard time because she was "different". At age 7 the stress she was under made her develope a tick. At age 9 she was finally diagnosed with selective mutism. you'd think that would help but it didn't. The bullying continued and the only way Katie could deal with this and teachers not believing that it was going on, was to self harm.
Katie moved to secondary school where the bullying continued and the self harm increased untill she took her tie and tried to hang herself in the school toilets. Fortunately a teacher found her. The school tried to work with her but by this time she was too damaged and we decided to take away her biggest fear, school, and home school her ourselves.
Things didn't get better, actually you could say they got worse. She started shouting and lashing out, screaming and sobbing, self harming increased and life got harder.
Katie has seen a couple of therapists however because of her selective mutism she can't communicate to them.
She has been diagnosed with selective mutism, severe anxiety, depression and anorexia.
We are trying everything to make her our happy beautiful girl again. Her now therapist has suggested we get a Therapy dog for her. They are so expensive and this is why we have done this page. Please if you can, please donate so we can buy a Therapy dog for her. We can not explain how utterly life changing it would be for her.
