Hi, I'm Jess
For the past year I've been part of developing a vital project that's going to help transform the landscape of mental health services available to vulnerable people who could not otherwise access or afford care. This includes refugees, the homeless and survivors of slavery and domestic violence. Those that know me will know that making emergency mental health care available is something very close to my heart. And I passionately believe everyone should have access to this when it's needed.
There is an unpaid team of us working together to make this happen. Therapy Beyond Borders (TBB) is being spearheaded by Taban Shoresh , a genocide survivor, founder of The Lotus Flower, women and girls activist and mental health advocate. It will essentially make therapeutic services more accessible to vulnerable people on a large scale via a digital platform. We are in the process of setting up TBB as a charity with the pro-bono support of Linklaters legal team and Monique Villa , former CEO of Thomson Reuters Foundation and fierce fighter for the rights of survivors of human trafficking.
Up until now I've been able to dedicate my time pro-bono to the project alongside completing my Masters in Refugee Care. We are now in need of some external funding to support a short-term development fund that will keep the project evolving at this pivotal stage over the next 3 months until the charity is fully formed and able to accept funding and donations. The impact of Covid-19 on mental health over the past year has created a sense of real urgency and need. That's why we have to continue to move forwards and act quickly.
Any donation amount from £100 - £1000 would be very much appreciated! For anyone who is able to support us this way, I will send an impact update at the end of 3 months so you know exactly how you have helped. All funding raised for this period will enable the continued Project Management of logistics, operations, research, scoping, development and implementation whilst we await our charitable status.
Many of us have had personal experiences with mental health and understand how vital this service will be. As a charity, TBB will be making it a priority to facilitate better access to mental health health services, free of charge, for the most vulnerable.
Thank you for your support,
Jess
