Therapy and Equipment for Ru

Donation protected

After having his lifesaving epilepsy surgery Ru has needed lots of therapy to help him develop in all ways.

We are committed to finding the things that work best for him and recently discovered intensive therapy at the NAPA centre https://napacenter.org/

This has been a huge success for Ru and has changed his life.

Over the course of the three weeks we watched in total awe as he made new connections and became a small person who understands they can move! We saw him grow in strength and flexibility and were blown away when he not only developed in the specific things that he was working on but also in his ability to understand language, interact and communicate. It is hard to describe the level of transformation and how much it  has meant to us all. To have new depths of connection from our shared understanding of the world is such a gift.

He has managed to develop from fixed sitting (and often falling and then being stuck on the floor) to being able to get up offhis back, back up to sitting...and then shuffle off round the house!

This was unimaginable to us before the intensive block of sessions and has given Ru such amazing freedom to explore and learn.

Knowing now how well this intensive approach works for Ru we have booked to do another intensive block of sessions next year.

On the advice of his therapists at NAPA, we are also looking to buy a piece of therapy equipment to help maximise the effectiveness of his exercises. A Galileo Vibration Plate. Doing exercises on vibration allows your muscles to start strengthening and maximize the effect of doing an exercise on its own. An example is doing 10 squats. If you did the 10 squats on the vibration plate, it would be equivalent to doing something like 100 squats on the floor. The vibration at high frequencies automatically activates your muscle spindle to assist with strengthening. Vibration at lower frequencies, can also be good for relaxation and balance.

We have set up this page to try and coverthe cost of these things, Ru’s next blocks of therapy at NAPA (£1700 per block) and a Vibration Plate (£4500).
