Help publish my new book, The Perpetual Beginner!

Over thirty years of teaching music, I've come to believe that most people face the same challenges. Most of all, I've also come to believe that the things that make people struggle with learning music come from the way they think about it.

Practice is crucial of course, but how you approach what you do is just as important. Talent is a great advantage, but it's not the deciding factor. Above all, it's the love: understanding what you love about playing music, what it feeds in you, and what touches you most.

Whatever musical gifts I may have been given, I really do believe that my greatest gift was how much music means to me. That love has sustained a life in music, and after 37 years of playing it hasn't faded one bit.

I was also fortunate to have found great teachers that shared the same love and commitment. Some became friends and mentors, while others may have only been a passing interaction. But the things I learned from them stayed with me ever since.

A year and a half ago I started looking back at the lessons that made my life in music possible. I began organizing these ideas in story form, and now these stories are well on their way to becoming a book.

"The Perpetual Beginner: a musician's path to lifelong learning" shares these stories, and explores both why these lessons matter and how anyone can apply them to their own musical life.

The book will be officially released this fall, but you can preorder a signed copy with a $25 donation.
There will also be an early launch event in Nashville, details TBD.

Producing and promoting a book takes resources, and so I'm turning to my supporters and followers to help raise the funds to design, produce, and run the kind of promotional campaign that will make this book a success. I will be posting regular updates, including donor perks and other goodies, so keep an eye out!

JUST ADDED: $250 donation enters a drawing for an Ayers D-04 acoustic guitar!

This is the same model that I've been playing onstage for the last year and a half. Sitka spruce top, African mahogany body and neck, dreadnought body style. This instrument is not coming off the rack somewhere but is a BRAND NEW guitar Ayers is building at my request. I will hold a drawing on Facebook Live on FRIDAY, MARCH 22 at 9 AM Nashville time (US-CST). A donation of $250 or more will enter you into the drawing...this guitar retails on Ayers' website for $1499. The $250 donation also gets you a special acknowledgement in the book, whether you win the guitar or not.
