Theo’s Story: A Brave 8-Year-Old Facing Brain Surgery
Theo is an energetic, bright second grader who should be spending his days playing with friends and learning new things in school. Instead, his world has suddenly changed.
On Monday, February 10th, Theo experienced what we now know were two absence seizures at school. Concerned, his mother, Joanne, took him to the ER for further evaluation. A CT scan revealed a lesion on the left side of his brain, and they were quickly transported to FFX INOVA Children’s Hospital for more testing.
Over the next few days, after countless MRIs and consultations, doctors determined that Theo had a brain tumor. We say had because, on Thursday, February 13th, the tumor—which, as of now, appears benign (we will have confirmation in a few weeks)—was mostly removed.
Theo underwent brain surgery to remove the 3.8 x 2.3 x 2.1 cm lesion (roughly the size of a ping pong ball), which was affecting his brain’s structure. While we are still waiting on pathology results, we are incredibly relieved that the procedure went well.
To our incredible family and friends who have been walking this journey with us, your prayers, love, and encouragement have meant the world. Please continue to keep Theo in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers. Your support has been a source of strength for us, and we are deeply grateful. ❤️❤️❤️
How You Can Help
As you can imagine, the medical costs for Theo’s care and ongoing recovery are significant. If you feel led to help, we’ve set up this GoFundMe to assist with these expenses. Any contribution, big or small, would mean so much to our family during this time. If you’re unable to donate, sharing the link is just as valuable.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything. Your kindness has lifted us up in ways we will never forget. ❤️
