As many of you know, my brother Theodore “Ted” Jackson died suddenly on September 12, 2018 while backpacking up the trail to Mount Goddard located in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. A longtime close friend and experienced backpacking buddy accompanied Ted on the trip.

Since Ted’s death three and a half years ago, I have received many calls, text messages, DM’S, emails and calls from Ted’s close friends and many former California State Park colleagues, associates and family members. Your unconditional love, support and treasured memories shared with Ted over the years have filled our family’s hearts with joy and immense comfort – just knowing how much you all cared for our beloved Ted. 

After careful thought and consideration, my family and I have decided to purchase a memorial bench and plaque to honor Ted’s life and his many contributions to California State Parks. We plan to install and dedicate Ted’s bench and plaque at the ‘Remembrance Grove’ at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park on Saturday September 17, 2022.Details of the memorial event are in the final planning stages and will be released soon.    
Your donation to the Theodore “Ted” Jackson Memorial GoFundMe account will be used to pay for the design, fabrication and installation of Ted’s memorial bench and plaque, to assist our family with hosting a memorial ceremony and reception, and to provide travel and overnight accommodation assistance for family members and friends planning to attend the event in Orick, CA in September. 

My plan is to donate (in Ted’s name) any excess funds collected to ‘Friends of Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park’, a 501(c) 3 Non-profit organization.
