Help Theodore Cover Medical Bills and Get Accessible Transportation

Hi, my name is Theodore, and I’m reaching out to ask for help during one of the most difficult chapters of my life.

About 10 years ago, my life changed forever when a tree fell on me, leaving my spine extremely fragile. Since that devastating accident, I have undergone 21 spinal surgeries. After everything I have endured, I was recently told that doctors will no longer perform additional surgeries on my spine. I have had to learn how to live with permanent challenges, relying on my wheelchair and the love and support of my family to get through each day.

Recently, I experienced another frightening setback when I fell while transferring into my wheelchair. I was hospitalized for four days, and while I am grateful to have made it through, the medical bills that followed have created an overwhelming financial burden.

My insurance has informed me that they will only cover 50% of the hospital expenses, leaving me responsible for approximately $25,000. This is an amount I simply cannot afford on my own. After years of surgeries, medical challenges, and adapting to life in a wheelchair, the stress of facing such a large medical debt has been incredibly difficult.

My hope is to first use the funds raised to help pay these outstanding medical expenses and take some of this financial pressure off my family.

If there are funds remaining after my medical bills are addressed, I would also be incredibly grateful to put them toward a handicap-accessible van. At the moment, I do not have a suitable vehicle for my needs. My 73-year-old father has to physically lift and maneuver my approximately 500-pound wheelchair onto a cargo hitch whenever I need transportation. It is extremely difficult and unsafe for him, and having an accessible vehicle would provide us with greater safety, independence, and peace of mind.
