Theo's Journey and the Road Ahead
On June 30, 2025 what was supposed to be a joyful evening with friends for Canada Day, Theo experienced a horrific pool accident fracturing 2 of his vertebrae in his neck which were compressing on his spinal cord resulting in an immediate paralysis from the chest down. He was transferred to a hospital in Montreal that is specialized in trauma to have emergency surgery to merge both of his vertebrae and take the pressure off his spinal cord. He has a long road ahead as he enters a rehabilitation program in hopes of regaining some sense of normalcy. Due to the severity of the injury, he and his family will remain in Montreal for an undetermined period of time which is 2 hours away from Gatineau.
Spinal cord injuries are complex and live altering, Theo’s injury is no different. He sustained a cervical fracture with spinal cord injury. As a result, Theo is currently a tetraplegic. This means all 4 limbs are impacted by his injury. He has altered sensation and impacted movement from his chest down with very limited function, as a result he requires full-time care to help with day to day tasks. Theo’s injury is classed as severe, but we are still hopeful and we also know that specialized physiotherapy can assist with regaining his mobility.
Theo's Story
Before his accident, Theo recently graduated high school and was looking forward to a great summer full of excitement and fun with his family and friends. At the beginning of the year, Theo got recruited by the football team the Griffons at the Cégep de l’Outaouais and was starting the Cégep in the fall. Theo is a very sporty guy and an amazing athlete, he played soccer most of his childhood and found his love for football in high school. He is always full of joy, kindness, laughter and brightens your day the second you meet him. He is the goofiest person ever, never fails to make the people around him laugh and have a good time. Theo has the opportunity to live the vibrant and fulfilled life he deserves, with your help we can make it possible.
Why We Need Your Support
We are seeking to raise funds to cover the specialized physiotherapy and psychological support for Theo which is essential for his success.
Your generous donation will fund:
- Specialized physiotherapy to help Theo gain movement and strength and learn to do normal day to day activities to help him lead a more fulfilling life.
- Psychological support to aid his mental health and well-being.
- Necessary equipment and care to ensure his safety and comfort.
- Living expenses for him and his family while living in Montreal for his 12 month rehabilitation program.
Every donation helps, it doesn’t matter how big or small as it brings us closer to our goal to give Theo a chance to regain his independence and live life to the fullest. He’s young and hasn’t had the chance to experience everything yet.
