My name is Line Van Gheem, and I am fundraising for my little son Theodore.

Theodore was born on January 31st, 2023 in Belgium. He is now three years old. Until recently he was a happy, playful little boy and developing very well. But since September–October 2025 his health has suddenly changed.

He began to develop progressive symptoms such as headaches, pain in his eyes, teeth, neck, arms, back, legs and feet, genital pain, hypoxia, refusal to drink and eat, a chronic cough and developmental regression. With every passing month, his condition seems to worsen. His whole body hurts, he sometimes says.

Following multiple medical evaluations, including MRI imaging in Belgium and Barcelona, Theodore has been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation type I, accompanied by myelomalacia (pre-syrinx) at the C2 level, a small starting syrinx at C4–C5, and severe cerebrospinal fluid obstruction secondary to crowding of the foramen magnum. This syringomyelia, if not promptly addressed, carries a significant risk of progressive and potentially permanent neurological deficits. Additionally, there is severe brainstem compression due to basilar invagination and the significant herniation of the tonsils, placing vital autonomic functions at substantial risk. Evaluation of the lower spinal region revealed findings suspicious for an occult tethered cord.

In Barcelona, there is a specialized center with extensive experience in managing this condition. Neurosurgeon Dr. Oliver at Teknon Medical Center recommends surgical intervention to address this life-threatening condition and to relieve the compression, thereby preventing further neurological damage.

As a mother, I want to give Theodore the best possible chance for a healthy future. Unfortunately, the costs for further examinations, treatment and travel are very high (in total around 70.000 euro for the first treatment), which is why we are asking for help.
