Theo was born into this world as a fighter, having skirted death after meconium aspiration that resulted in acute respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation and an 18 day stay in NICU. He is now fighting again, with a rare form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma. This cancer is very rare, only 250 cases per year in the US, but we are blessed to have him at St Judes Hospital for his care.
Theo is 18 months old, and was seen for a routine eye exam due to concerns with his vision on June 17. Within the week he was admitted to St Judes in Memphis where retinoblastoma was confirmed in both eyes. His left eye is stage E and his right eye is stage D (stage E is similar to stage V). He has a 52% chance of keeping both eyes. He plans to stay at St Judes for the next 8 weeks because of the rigorous nature of the chemotherapy treatment he will undergo as they are using an atypical treatment plan to attack this aggressively. His treatment plan will change depending on how he handles his next two treatments but is anticipated to be an 11 month plan of one week of chemo in Memphis, and once a week labs in Tulsa. Both of these locations are hours away from their home in Bentonville, AR. Please join Theo's Tribe on FB for treatment plan and status updates.
St Judes is an amazing organization. They are covering the costs of medical treatment, housing and and some food expenses. Unfortunately, this coverage only covers one caregiver and St Judes has some limitations on what they can provide related to COVID restrictions. We have started a gofund me to support Chante and Jordan with additional transportation, lodging, and miscellaneous expenses that may occur as it is a long treatment plan duration. At the end of the treatment, any remaining funds will be donated to St Judes to help them carry on their miraculous mission.
We appreciate your generous support, prayers, and well-wishes.
