Hi! I am Lily and if you know me, you know about my cat Theo as I will bring him up in any and all conversations I can. He is my sweet little baby man and my ESA. Theo has been in and out of the vet ER recently due to urinary blockages (3 separate times) over the course of a week, he also historically blocked about a year ago. With all of these factors the vet's determined he needed surgery to survive and being the fool obsessed with my cat I said yes please save him even though I don't have all the funds.
I am hoping to raise enough to start to pay off some of the hospital bills he has/is currently getting and any of the follow up appointments post surgery. The surgery Theo is getting is a Perineal Urethrostomy (PU surgery) which is an intensive "salvage" surgery and considered a last resort for cats in his situation. Male cats are significantly more likely to experience urinary blocks (which are deadly emergencies) due to their urethra being longer and tapering at the end, due to this the PU surgery will shorten the urethra to be anatomically similar to that of a female cat and help avoid the blocking issues in the future when he has flare ups. There will be 2 to 3 weeks of post-op care that I will be responsible for and requires 24/7 monitoring, and hopefully after that he will be cleared to start to heal up fully and be back to his silly cat ways. Most cats who have this surgery go on to live a happy and long life and are able to avoid the ER again, so I'm hoping that will be the case for him!
Funds will cover:
- ER stay #1 on Sunday Sept 13th to Wednesday Sept 16th, a little over $3k
- Wednesday Sept 16th night, immediately upon coming home we had to go back as he was promptly blocking again (they did a quick unblocking and sent him home on heavy duty medication), a little under $400
- Er stay #2 on Friday Sept 18th when he began blocking again and had to be re-admitted. During this stay it was determined he would stay at the ER till his surgery the following week which was being emergency expedited. Another $3k+ bill.
- Surgery and post-op recovery costs, the PU surgery and post-op care alone will be well over $9k.
- Anything beyond this amount will go towards Theo's future vet visits as he heals
