The Mask Project | 3D Printed Medical Masks

What is The Mask Project Edwardsville?  The Mask Project (TMPE) is a movement towards a normal tomorrow. TMPE produces 3d printed masks for anyone who needs one for free. Our project believes that one should never pay for peace of mind and a sense of security that comes with wearing a protective mask. TMPE aims to donate to nursing homes, doctors, medical workers, and any member of the community.  As mentioned earlier, these masks are 100% free.  This is where we need your help.  Through your donations we are able to make this service free for those who need the masks most.  The donation of $8 funds the production of 2 masks!

Let's talk about the mask. Although these masks are not medical grade, they are a great alternative to no mask. Every mask is 3d printed using PLA plastic filament. After printing, each mask  is sprayed with a disinfectant to increase the cleanliness of each mask. Next, the first filter is inserted into the mask. Once the first filter is placed in the mask, the over-ear straps, along with the comfort clip, are attached. Now each mask is sprayed for a second time with a disinfectant. From this point, the mask is met with 6 days worth of filter replacements and is enclosed in a vacuum sealed package. Each package also contains a sheet regarding how to replace the filter along with general care suggestions.

Each mask comes with 1 filter and 6 filter replacements. These filters are rated to protect against dust/lint, mold spores, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, virus carriers, most smoke, and microscopic allergens. These filters are suggested to be replaced daily but, depending on use intensity, this may vary.

The Mask Project Edwardsville was started by Sam Lewis after noticing a major shortage of medical supplies and most importantly medical masks. Noticing this problem, along with realizing the uniqueness of the current world situation, compelled Sam to make a difference now. With inspiration from AJ Apone, founder of The Mask Initiative in California, Sam was able to receive the guidance on how to make a difference here in Edwardsville, IL.

The Mask Project Edwardsville is excited to make a difference in our local community and with your help we can make a positive impact together!
