On July 3rd 2015 my family and I lives were forever changed. It was a hot Texas July day, the kids had stayed the night with maw maw and paw paw (Chris's parents). It was around 3 pm the next day when Chris and I started to head down to Jacksonville to pick them up. We always take my car but it was a nice day and so we took Sally, Chris's mustang, which Chris had to drive because I can't drive stick. So we take 346 to 69, I remember we had the windows down, singing, wind blowing my pony tail around, and laughing at me doing my "rapping" because I can't but we were happy. Then we took cr 347 or Bolton St into Jacksonville we got down past the 2nd gas station when from out of no where, this man in a white van runs the stop sign at 50 mph and plows right into my side of the car. We were hit so hard that I was knocked out instantly. We were hit on my side (passenger side) so hard the car spun around the road complete 360 and then my side hit a telephone pole, so I took 2 good whacks. I don't recall anything that happen except for leaving our house. The back right wheel was broken off its axle every window was blown out and there I sat lifeless...while the man who hit us yells his breaks were out and that he couldn't feel his legs. Police report later shows that the vans breaks worked fine He just didn't bother touching them, and by doing so he almost killed me. I was cut out of the mustang that sat like a crumpled can on the side of the road. My husband watching and wondering if I was even alive, my kids sat wondering where mom and dad were, while I begged with the Lord to please not take me yet I remember telling him no I need my kids and they need me. I was transported to ETMC of Jacksonville where they found that I was bleeding inside and both lungs had collapsed, so I was then transported by helicopter to ETMC of Tyler. Once there I under went emergency surgery to repair my lungs, hole in diaphragm, cut in kidney and other rips and pulls. Then I was stapled up 50 of them all the way up my stomach. Then the next surgery repaired my hip with two pins and more staples. The next surgery repaired my right arm, new elbow 8 screws and 2 plates. I woke up 2 weeks into ICU and it was pure hell! I just wanted to go home and I couldn't move a part of my body and I didn't understand why. Why me what did I do and why did the man get to walk away? I spent almost a month in the hospital. I got out a few days shy of my 30th birthday. I have had to learn to walk again use my left hand since my right was smashed and sadly cut my hair off because I couldn't reach it to put it up. Then on October 30th I had to have emergency surgery on my right arm again because it was infected, my body is rejecting the metal. So I spend 2 more weeks in the hospital where I received IV antibiotics. They told me I would be there up to 6 weeks because I have no insurance and I had to have so much of this medicine. Well God found a way for me to get the IV meds but at home and he got someone to help pay for that so it could happen. Now I sit with a P.I.C.C line getting meds every 12 hours. This has really put a strain on us financially because the Dr's don't care if you don't have the money they want something now...I have over half a million in medical bills alone and here it is December, Christmas time and we can't pay our rent. I would never ask for help or money for that fact but I have no other option right now. We couldn't make last months and we can't make this month and we have to figure out a way to keep Christmas good because the kids don't deserve to miss out and I don't want them to feel down or miss out its not their fault. So I simply ask for your help if its $1.00 to simply a prayer all is helpful all is needed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and may God bless you and yours. The Lewis family....Chris, Kristen, Collin, and Kambreea.
