Thank you for looking at Bon Appétit Theatre's GoFundMe for our debut show 'The Last Supper: Gospel of a Heinous Housewife!'
ABOUT THE PROJECT:
‘The Last Supper’ is a 50 minute long devised comedy, heading to the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2019. Inspired by the flavour of shows like ‘The Real Housewives’, ‘Mob Wives’ and ‘Dance Moms’, it is an homage to the reality TV of today and will satirise and celebrate the tropes that we all love to hate. This is the story of five affluent and narcissistic middle-aged women gathered for a birthday meal, full to the brim with betrayal, gossip, and scandal- and the time has finally come to pull up a chair and join them for dinner.
Furthermore, this is Bon Appétit Theatre’s first project, meaning we have no previous profits to get this off the ground. We want these projects to become our jobs, so in funding this you are not only funding our show, but Bon Appétit name and potential! Also, due to nature of the characters and setting, a considerable sum is needed to achieve the required authenticity, and for the humour and purpose to feel grounded in truth.
ABOUT BON APPÉTIT THEATRE:
Meeting through the drama society at University of Kent, company directors Natcha Chirapiwat and Freddie Main bonded over their love of comedy, food and of course, reality tv. With directing credits between them under The Gulbenkian Theatre and Canterbury Shakespeare Festival, the time had come to take their work further afield and into their own hands. And so Bon Appétit Theatre was born, the title being a reference to Freddie’s use of food symbolism in his work and his inclusion of Katy Perry’s Bon Appétit, in his adaptation of Coraline. Our company looks to bring humour and a refreshing angle to necessary and relevant topics. This tasty kind of theatre, will make you both cackle and consider.
WHERE IS THIS MONEY GOING?
Transparency is important to us, especially when it is regarding this GoFundMe: the funds donated to ‘The Last Supper’ will be used in two ways. Firstly, to cover our show and marketing costs. We feel very lucky to be bringing original work to PBH’s Free Fringe, but need to be able to satisfy the essential production, technical and marketing requirements required to bring this idea to life!
The Edinburgh Fringe is an incredibly exciting time, but it is no secret that it can be very expensive for all involved. Therefore, funds will secondly be used will partially subsidise travel for the cast and crew of ‘The Last Supper’ to Edinburgh this summer. However, funds from this GoFundMe will not be going towards the personal salaries of our cast and crew. Our show costs are our priority, and what we can subsidise for our team beyond that will be pledged to them.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?
First and foremost a huge personal thank you. The Fringe, for many directors and performers, is a right of passage, a place to learn from yourself and develop from the sheer amount and quality in the work of others. It’s a cliche because it’s true; we are endlessly grateful for every pledge we receive, no matter how big or small. This is what we want to do, and without a kickstart there is no way we can.
You can also expect transparency on how the money is being spent via a newsletter every fortnight during the Fringe process and run. This will also include other exciting updates, photos, teasers and videos. Pledgers of over £100 will also receive a personalised thank you video from one of the characters in the first weeks of July 2019. We cannot wait for you to meet them.
Bon Appétit Theatre’s ‘The Last Supper: Gospel of a Heinous Housewife’ runs daily 3rd-24th August 6:45pm, at Bar Bados Room 1, Cowgate, Edinburgh, under PBH’s Free Fringe 2019.
Hear it from our directors themselves!
