My grandfather was on a mission trip to an island called Palau in Micronesia when he suddenly and unexpectedly had a heart attack and died while scuba diving. He passed out in the boat after wanting to come up early. The crew on the boat tried to revive him and hurried to the mainland as fast as they could, but when they got to shore it was too late.
He was the greatest grandfather anyone could hope for. He was kind, thoughtful, and extremely funny. He was very smart and loved to experiment with electronics. He was healthy and happy, and had just had his birthday. He was 64.
This has come as a great shock to our family and has been one of the most traumatic experiences of my life, especially because I felt like he was one of the only people who understood me.
I made this GoFundMe to help raise money for my mother and her sister to fly to Palau. My mom and my aunt need to go out to Micronesia in just a few days to be with the body and help with all of the legal issues because he died in a foreign country. The trip will cost a total of $7000, just including the flight itself and not the cost of shelter and food. We would like the funds sometime in the next 2 weeks so that we can pay off the tickets as soon as possible. I will be in charge of all money that flows in and out of this GoFundMe account, and the donations will be collected in my father's, Jay Melashenko's, bank account so he can pay the tickets and additional costs.
