A freak lightning strike started a fire inside the DeRossett family’s home early Saturday morning (6-21-25) — destroying the electrical system and everything plugged in it, burning through the walls, and leaving them devastated. The financial strain is overwhelming even with insurance covering most the structure cost, there’s still a strenuous amount of other finances as many damages inside the house were made including not limited to; furniture, appliances, clothing, etc. all were either burned in the fire or water damaged.

This wasn’t just a house. It was home — built with love, filled with memories, and shared by a large, close-knit family with kids of all ages. And in a matter of moments, that space was turned upside down.

What makes this even more heartbreaking?
Both parents are fully employed, working full-time jobs, doing everything “right.” They’re showing up to work, showing up for their kids, and showing up for each other — even while dealing with the trauma and stress of losing their home.

They’re doing everything they can to stay positive — to be strong for their children and push forward — but the truth is:
Until the home is repaired, they don’t have the space they built their life in.

They’ve lost their safe place. Their routine. Their comfort. And yet, they’re still holding on — trying to rebuild one piece at a time.
