The Grant Family

Donation protected
Lifelong Lima/West Bloomfield resident, Matt Grant, was living the all American Dream until one unimaginable day in April 2019.   Father, husband, foster parent, fellow community member, and volunteer, Matt developed pneumonia and recurrent unexplained illness, until the diagnosis of multiple myeloma was finally made.  He immediately began grueling chemotherapy treatment to prevent any further metastasis, and in October 2019, he underwent a stem cell transplant, which offers a chance for durable remission.  Even with the stem cell transplant, Matt faces lifelong chemotherapy and future treatments that are still in the experimental phases now. Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in the white blood cells, leading to the body’s inability to fight any infection, causes destruction of bone marrow, and has potential for bone loss. The medical costs associated with these therapies, the hospitalizations, and time lost from work are overwhelming.

Matt and his wife, Alisha, have dedicated their lives to helping others. They are strong advocates for children in foster care and in the adoption process and for children involved with child welfare through their careers with the Department of Social Services. Their shared belief in “leaving this world a little better than the way we found it" has been instilled in their five children, that range in age from 3 to 28. Matt and Alisha have fostered many children and adopted two beautiful little girls through the foster system.  It is our turn to help this inspirational and selfless family.
