Hello family & friends,

I need your help! Some of our young girls are dealing with many issues such as low self-esteem and depression due to the immense pressure of external sources to look a certain way. Did you know that 75% of girls with low self-esteem engage in self-harming behaviors as a coping mechanism? Or that, 53% of girls are unhappy with their bodies which increases to 78% by the time they reach age 17? Low self-esteem has been linked to violent behavior, school dropout rates, teenage pregnancy, suicide, and low academic achievement. (http://www.self-esteem-school.com) In a study carried out among female students, 80% of them claimed that their negative body image was linked to the negative remarks made by friends and family. (www.selfesteem-activities.com). Our girls are struggling with daddy issues, domestic violence, sexual assault, teen pregnancy, bullying and peer pressure in silence because they feel as though they have no one to confide in. It is my duty to be just that for our girls by providing them with encourgement, guidance and support during this fundamentally transitional time.

From these facts and statistics on self-esteem, we are reminded of how damaging it can be when our young girls do not have a positive view of themselves. It can lead to substance abuse, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, promiscuity, the list could go on for days but it stops here! It stops here because I demand more for our girls. I am eager to serve as a mentor and role model for our girls to help them reach their full potential and give them the reassurance that they are enough! Our sisters, daughters and nieces deserve to know their worth and know that they are precious jewels created in the image of God. My love and genuine passion for mentorship and young women's empowerment has allowed me to birth my baby, The Girl's Room, Inc.

I thank God for blessing me with The Girl’s Room, Inc less than a year after graduating from Howard University's School of Business. The Girl's Room, Inc is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and has a mission of empowering young girls and fostering healthy development through mentorship, workshops and personal growth programs. We plan to achieve this by providing mentorship to young girls ages 7-18, building self-esteem, promoting the importance of self-love and facilitating workshops covering topics such as goal-setting, healthy relationships and character building.

Will you help? My purpose for starting a GoFundMe is to humbly ask you for your financial support as I embark on this journey to provide a safe haven for our young girls. With your help we will be able to train our mentors and provide life changing self-love and self-worth mentoring programs, empowerment workshops with certified life coaches and guest speakers and character building sessions for our young girls with the goal of occupying our own facility in the future.

It is only with your monetary support and your prayers that we will be able to serve the young ladies of The Girl's Room, Inc in the capacity in which they deserve. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

With humble and warm regards,
