Problem Solving. Teamwork. Creativity. Innovation. These are just some of the things that participation in the STEAM-based (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) challenges run by Destination Imagination, teaches the youth of our community. Chagrin Falls runs a Destination Imagination program as an extra-curricular opportunity available to students every year.
The Floppy Guinea Pigs is a team comprised of sixth-grade Chagrin Falls Intermediate School students, Aiden Cabic, Dylan Babic, Cole Kilby, James Rose and Luke Weaver.
This team won first place in their challenge, Maze Craze, at the regional and state competitions, earning them the right to compete in Destination Imagination Global Finals, the world’s largest celebration of student creativity, to be held May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
During months of hard work and preparation to get to this point, the team has built a remote control car from scratch that must be navigated through a maze, experimented with chemical reactions to create a prop transformation, and is learning and using 3D printing technology to remove an object from the maze; all of this is presented during the performance of a play that the team wrote and they act out.
