Medical support for the Flewellings

It's crazy how quickly and dramatically our lives can change. Neal and Tracy Flewelling are in the midst of a hard change right now and they need our help. If you know Neal and Tracy at all, you know they live a lifestyle of kindness toward every person they meet. We can all attest that at every point in their lives, they have invested in the hearts of the people around them—in their workplaces, their hobbies, and their ministries. They are good friends, good family, and good people who love God and love others in tangible, heartfelt ways. As with many who pour themselves out for others, it is difficult for them to ask for help, so I am choosing to ask for them.

Here's their story.

Last fall, Neal began having pain and difficulty when swallowing. He was told then that it was most likely due to an esophageal stricture that could be resolved with a simple procedure, during which doctors would both confirm the diagnosis and fix the problem.

As he and Tracy waited for the procedure, his symptoms quickly worsened to the point where he became unable to swallow anything other than liquids. When they went in for the procedure on December 21, 2017, the doctors discovered it was not what they thought it was and a biopsy was taken.

On December 26, Neal and Tracy were told that he has esophageal cancer. A later PET scan revealed that the cancer has spread to several lymph nodes, which means that surgery to remove the cancer is not an option. His oncologist decided chemo would be the best course of action and began working with the biopsy to determine what kind of chemo to use, a process which would take about 10 days.

During the waiting period, Neal continued to lose weight and strength. His left arm began to swell and became extremely painful.  On Monday, January 22nd, at his appointment with the oncologist, he fainted and was rushed to the ER where it was determined he had multiple blood clots in his arm. His doctors decided he was now high priority and the next day he went to surgery to put in the port catheter and a feeding tube to help him get nourishment. They also explained that the cancer is stage 4.

Psalm 94:19 says "In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul." Neal and Tracy remain confident in the goodness of the Lord—that as He has been faithful to them in the past, He will continue to be faithful to them through this journey. They trust that God loves them, sees their needs and will care for them and that His goodness reigns and sustains them through the hard times.

Would you be willing to be a part of the goodness of God in their lives? Neal and Tracy have a difficult road ahead of them. The bills are already piling up and he has lost the ability to work, which is devastating to those who are self-employed, as Neal and Tracy are. Tracy is working hard to pick up as much of the slack as possible, but these are exhausting days, both physically and emotionally, for both of them.

Thank you in advance for your kindness. Any and all contributions will be directed toward their living expenses and medical bills.
