When Kerstin Cupid walked into my first grade classroom 13 years ago, I knew this determined little girl had a bright future. She comes from the East New York-Brownsville section of Brooklyn. This area of Brooklyn still has a long way to go from it's gang presence, poverty strickened and dilapidated environment. Her loving mother works 7 days a week to ensure Kerstin and her little sister have a roof over their head and food to eat, but it is a struggle.
I am proud to say that Kerstin is in her 3rd year of college at Mount Saint Vincent’s in the Bronx. She was awarded a scholarship that pays for a portion of her tuition. 2 years ago I reached out to some of you who graciously helped her college journey by generouly donating money. With that money I was able to purchase her books, towels & toiletries, a chrome book and all the items needed for her dorm room.
Kerstin has since become an RA, which pays $45 a week (now in jeopardy of keeping, read below) and volunteers at a senior living facility near campus.
For reasons not privy to me, her mother has been denied the Parent Plus Loan that she was receiving to pay for each semester ($2000). There is now a hold on her student account and she is unable able to make her class schedule or return to school on January 21st, if she doesn’t start paying. Kerstin has 4 semesters left ($8000) to get her degree and I am hoping to help her with some of those costs by reinstating her GoFundMe page.
Please help this very hard working, kind and deserving young lady to finish her education. She is studying to be a teacher, so that she can give back to her community and give underprivileged children the opportunity to make a difference in there lives.
Any little bit you can give ($10, $20, etc) is really appreciated (you can give anonymously) and will make a huge differnece to Kerstin and her future. She has worked so hard to get to college and just needs a little bit of generosity to help her complete it.
