Support the future. The future is here. The future is now.
My name is Castille. I am a senior at a charter school in Santa Fe, New Mexico called Academy For Technology and the Classics (ATC). It was here that I first learned about Marine Biology. My dream had always been to work with animals. I wanted to be a veterinarian until I started to learn how little we know about the water that surrounds us. I was intrigued by how much there was to know about the oceans and it's contents, that covers the majority of our planet and holds a vast amount of life within it; I wanted to learn more, and I wanted to help. In realizing that human imact can not be reversed, and as a youth activist that focuses on sustainability, I feel that the easiest way to make change is first hand and through education. I started to incorporate marine science into my everyday life and have continued to develop a greater fascination for marine life as well as solutions for great change.
In those efforts, I have become involved in three youth leadership/ activist organizations. I first became involved in Creativity for Peace in 2013 by first attending a leadership worshop with other youth leaders in Santa Fe. The workshop was based around alternatives to violence and how to work with groups. I then became involved with the organization directly which focuses on creating a peaceful space for Israeli and Palestinian young women to come together and heal the divide through dialogue, interaction, and compassion. Similarly, I went through another youth leadership institute for Earth Care's Youth Allies for Sustainability around the same time. They create change by spreading awareness through and amongst the youth by having youth organized action based projects around social justice, economic justice, and environmental justice. This is done through passion based projects, food service, and other varying projects chosen an put into action by the youth organizers. Most recently I have gotten involved in my school's Student Wellness Action Team (SWAT) . This is a student run group that focuses on youth empowerment by developing our leadership, advocating, and education skills within ourselves to then strengthen our roles within our communities and schools. These youth promote healthy behaviors in teens and work with prevention of abuse (both drug and relationships) and look to put emphasis on a better future for the youth.
I am going to college in the fall of 2016. Any money raised will go directly to benefitting me in my college education (anything from books and tuition to living expenses).
In filling out my college applications, financial aid, and scholarships, I am realizing how expensive my education can become. My efforts are endless in making my dreams and goals come true. I am appreciative of any donations of any size. If you aren't able to contribute financially, sharing my link would greatly help me also.
I will post progress updates on where I am in the process of achieving my future endeavors. Currently I am applying to California State University at Monteray Bay, Hawaii Pacific University, University of Hawaii at Manoa and Hilo, University of the Virgin Islands, and Eckerd College in Florida. I have gotten accepted into Eckerd College, Hawaii Pacific University, University of Maine, and the University of The Virgin Islands so far. As of today (02/21/2016), all of my college applications have been submitted. I have submitted my FASFA application, submitted scholarship applications, and am will be continuously filling out other scholarship applications.
My family and I are greatly appreciative of any type of support. It truly takes a village to raise a child and put her through college.
