Hello. My name is Brenda. I am posting this on behalf of my son Joe and daughter in law Jenn. It's a humbling experience as an adult to have to ask for help or financial assistance. May 5th, 2023 started off as an regular day. Joe and Jenn attending work and racing home to grab some dinner to attend the first River softball team game. Joe was on 2nd base and running towards 3rd when the ball got caught, so he had to hustle his way back to the base. In order to beat the tag he made a in the moment decision and tried to slide back into 2nd (yes, he beat the tag). That was the moment when everything changed. Joe stood up thinking he was ok but his arm hanging down told him otherwise. He went into complete shock after that. Jenn was barely able to get him to the hospital. When they arrived they were never put in as an emergency case and after an agonizing time in the waiting room (sweating profusely, screaming in pain, pacing, sitting, pacing) and going up to the check in desk multiple times they finally made their way into a room. After x-rays it was confirmed that not only was the shoulder dislocated but it was also fractured. The male nurse and doctor had to use every bit of energy and strength to get the arm back into place. They left the hospital with more questions than answers and since this happened on a Friday night they were unable to contact an orthopedic doctor until Monday. They got an appointment for Wednesday and another set of x-rays and a referral for an MRI. The doctor is pretty confident no surgical intervention is necessary. Because of Joe's position as a mechanic he has been advised to stay out of work for the next 3 months. They have already received an estimate for the MRI of 450 dollars and that isn't even mentioning the co-pays or the hospital expenses and the potential PT. While they have insurance through Jenn's company there are still deductibles and fees for scans and x-rays. With only one income this is a burden they cannot bare on their own. Joe's work does not offer light duty, compensation or any kind of disability. They have looked into short term disability through social security but they do not meet the qualifications. Even with cut backs to their daily living expenses they still have rent, electricity and all the other things any normal adult has to pay. They cannot do it alone. They have incredible faith. They have trust in God and His provisions but sometimes that comes in the form of asking others for help. The goal of 10,000 dollars accounts for lost revenue during Joe's 3 month recovery period. Right now they are taking it day by day. Joe is having a hard time doing most things you don't even have to think about (getting dressed, using the restroom, cutting your food). It's his right, dominant arm so even driving a car is a challenge. If you can donate, any amount we are so very grateful. If you can't donate please share this and please keep them in your prayers. It is a hard pill to swallow to not be able to provide for your own family. We love and appreciate you all.
