Dear Friends,

My name is Julie Anne Shapiro. I am a creative artist based out of Santa Fe, NM and I am humbly asking for support to fund my theatrical & cultural awareness learning abroad this summer.

From June-August, I will be traveling and training with One Year Lease in their International Program. OYL is a bold, physical and collaborative theatre company whose vision is to "create experiences for audiences that transcend the ordinary, transport the spirit and embrace the magical." During the program, we will be traveling to Japan, India and Greece to train with master guest artists studying ancient theatrical forms such as Suzuki, Viewpoints, music, dance, yoga, choral work, martial arts, and clowning. All the while, we will be collaborating to create and perform Oedipus by Ellen McLaughlin in Greek in village squares in the Epirus region and in a theatre in Ioannina.

The program costs $11,000 + another $5,000 for airfare/travel fees. After the program completes, I will continue to broaden my world education and travel internationally, hence the additional $2,000 I am calling in to create a total of $18,000- The Hebrew Symbol of Chai (Life and Luck).

I know in my bones that the art I learn this summer will activate 'my purpose' of exploring sound and movement to empower and inspire individual growth, conscious activism and community building. Tikkun Olam, or "Repair the World," is at the core of my artistic intention. Whether you are a woo-woo willy, straight edged billy joe or sit somewhere in between, we all know that what goes around, comes around, and I am committed to peace work at every level.

Continuing my work as a Teaching Artist and Peace Ambassador Facilitator with Tomorrow's Women to empower youth all over the world to share their unique creative gifts with bravery, confidence and creativity
Composing an international ensemble of artists to create socially engaged Transformational Theatre
Carrying on my work with Womxyn to facilitating healing sister circles, workshops and groups
Celebrating Jewish heritage and collecting stories as a member of the Jewish Storyteller's Guild
Embracing my role as a certified Vocal Sound Healer and supporting people to heal themselves

To be honest, I really hesitate asking for financial support when so many beings are desperately suffering to meet their basic needs; and yet, multiple teachers and role models of mine encouraged me to reach out for support in honor of my work. I am humbled to listen to their advice and advocate for my art.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for supporting me with magical mula as I work to hone my craft with OYL and master artists. Through this experience, I will learn to speak many languages of love and life that I can sow into my work forevermore.
