Please help me get a psychiatric service dog
Spende geschützt
My name is Thea, and I've been struggling with severe mental illness since I was 6 years old. I've been hospitalized in four different psychiatric facilities. I see a psychiatrist, a therapist and a dietitian regularly, and I take prescription medications that make it possible for me to function. But, I still have unstable periods, and my family watches me closely during these hard times because I am susceptible to suicidal depression. However, with the aid of a trained service dog, I would be able to function more independently.
As I plan for my future, it is becoming more important for me to be able to function on my own. I have found an agency, called Man's Best Friend Dog Training, who sells trained service dogs in Cleveland Ohio (https://www.bestfrienddogtraining.com/assistance-dogs/) A service dog is a type of assistance dog specifically trained to help people who have disabilities including mental illness. They are individually trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such tasks include reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person during an anxiety attack, creating a safe barrier around a person in public who is having a panic attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets.
My parents and friends always have to watch me and keep me safe. If I had a service dog to help with my self harm and panic attacks, I would feel more comfortable going out on my own knowing I would have someone to protect me. Until recently, I could not find a service dog for under $20,000. However, Man's Best Friend Dog Training trains service dogs at a fraction of that cost. They can provide me a service dog for approximately $5,000! This is the closest I've ever been to having the medical equipment that I need. Anything is greatly appreciated!
