Meet Thea - she is a vibrant 2 year old born premature with Down syndrome, trisomy 21, and a congenital heart defect. She loves music and is intrigued by books. She is full of personality and spunk. She is absolutely adorable and very smart.
Thea requires numerous specialist - physical, speech, and occupational therapy - to help her have the best life possible. Thea is still learning how to eat as she has ongoing aspiration issues. She does not yet walk, crawl and is nonverbal. Therapy is a necessary aspect in life for Thea to reach her full potential and independence. With that comes a lot of expenses not covered by insurance as it has a high deductible and a limited amount of allowed visits for things such as therapy. Unfortunately Texas is a state that does not provide enough resources to help individuals like Thea. The Medicaid by-in program for her specific needs has over a 20 year waiting period. Currently, Thea does not receive any state benefits, Medicaid, Medicare, social security, or disability; unfortunately, she has been denied by all, which has limited her access to the appropriate therapy she needs to thrive.
When Thea was born her father was diagnosed with Crohn’s, a autoimmune disease that has no cure. While Thea has been hospitalized numerous times, due to being premature, her heart issues and other complications, her father has also been hospitalized with Crohn’s, sepsis and the numerous health issues that comes with Crohn’s. They have both been fighting for their lives, hospitalized at the same time. Thea's amazing bonus mom is a paramedic who spends her time and resources fighting and caring for Thea, her husband (Thea's father), and also our community. Now it's our turn to fight for them!
Unfortunately, medical expenses have increased and accumulated. Her father has been physically unable to work for long periods of time due to his own deteriorating health.
Along with all the medical expenses, legal fees have accumulated as well. Legal fees that insure Thea is given the care and communication that she deserves to have between her 2 families who both love her very much.
We are Thea’s army and today we are asking for help to raise funds to give her the best life possible; access to therapy and access to both her families.
