The Amazing Max's Medical Fund

Donation protected

My name is JoAnna Lockwood.  I am an RN in the ER at Marshall Medical in Placerville, CA.
This is Maxwell.  He is 10 years old and is in the 5th grade at Sierra Ridge School.  Max is the type of kid that even if you only meet him once he will touch your heart and soul in such a way that he becomes unforgettable. His sense of humor is on the professional comedien level.  He is wise beyond his years.  He is charismatic and charming with a light inside him that shines so bright.  Max and his older brother Sam are best friends and together they are a non-stop duo of jokes, laughs and entertainment (trust me)!
What started for Max as an upper respiratory infection during the last week of January 2016 quickly progressed into a serious health condition.  He was transferred from Marshall Medical to Sutter Memorial Hospital and then to Shriners Childrens Hospital in Sacramento within a few days.  He was diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumoniae induced Stevens-Johnsons Syndrome - a rare and serious disorder of the skin and mucous membranes.
His skin quickly became covered in open burn type wounds - even inside his lungs, throat, mouth and eyes.  He will be at Shriners getting continuous treatment for his skin (wound care/debriedment/dressing changes multiple times a day) as well as undergoing surgery for his eyes with a membrane implant that will hopefully prevent permanent damage.  He has a feeding tube, multiple IV lines and is getting top notch treatment and care by a team of specialists.
His mother Wendy is not only a co-worker of mine, but has been one of my closest friends for years.  She has worked for Marshall Medical for over 20 years and is well known in the boys' school district, volunteering numerous times and even helps coaching Track!  Wendy and her boys are the type of family that you wished you were a part of and the laughter in their home is never ending.
The extended care and rehab Max will need once discharged is going to be costly as will be the hospital inpatient bills from both Marshall and Sutter.  Even once at home, Max will be immunocompromised and will be susceptible to infection.  The time off work Wendy will need to take in order to be with her son will be long.  I am hoping that anyone who knows Max, Wendy or Sam will be able to help this family just a little.
Any help/donations will go directly to Wendy.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.  This family is so dear to my heart - anything you are able to give is appreciated.
