THE ZACK PACK: ZACK'S LEUKEMIA BATTLE, A FASHIONABLE FIGHT

I am creating this fundraiser for my son, Zack. In October of 2020, he was not only diagnosed with Covid but it was also discovered that he had Leukemia (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, to be precise). It was a long and hard fought journey but Zack emerged triumphant after painful tests in his spine and bones, harsh chemo, and 2 years if maintenance chemo.
Zack fought to restore his body after the exhausting effort to save his life. He was able to restore his strength and was in the best shape of his life, even before the cancer showed up.
Things were beginning to look up for him. So, he decided to move to Philadelphia, where he has always been drawn to.
There, he was definitely being noticed as a highly talented photographer/videographer. He was making waves in the local fashion world and even established himself as the photographer for the Philly Law Department.
Zack had felt confident enough to switch his periodic testing closer to his new home in Philadelphia. In a disheartening twist of fate, Zack came to find out that the Leukemia had returned.
Having established himself in the local community, he is confident that he is not going to have to go back into battle alone. This time, the cancer has returned to his CNS (central nervous system) This means that it will be the same battle but a different approach.
His new doctors did not waste any time on getting started, since the clock was ticking. Zack has already received rounds of spinal chemo and has already had his fair share of hospital stays.
It was decided that Zack would need an Omaaya port surgically implanted into his skull, so that medication could be delivered directly where it needs to go, instead of enduring countless more needles into his spine.
Since he is living alone in Philadelphia, I (his mom, and also his younger brother) have had to travel back and forth from 3 hours away to help Zack.
He has been unable to work, due to the treatment and procedures that he has to endure. So, it has been quite the financial struggle for him and our family. I have already gone through my own savings and have now had to resort to the charitable kindness of family, friends, and the immeasurable kindness of strangers that want to help my incredible son have another chance at a long and healthy life that he so truly deserves.
Zack is loved and respected by many. So, that is why I have decided to put together this GoFundMe. He still has quite a journey still ahead of him. The hospital here in Philadelphia, is the only one in PA that is able to offer the lifesaving treatment that will very likely save his life. It will not come without it’s share of challenges.
The coming week, Zack must receive chemo to prepare his T cells and make room for ones that were sent away to Europe to be “reinforced” and trained to attack only cancer cells, instead of healthy ones. This is a new and exciting approach to Zack’s cancer and there is hope that the results gathered for this treatment will be used to save many other lives to come.
After a week of chemo, Zack will be placed inpatient to have the new “Ninja T cells” infused and he will be monitored for another week since there is a possibility of complications with how his body responds. He must be monitored for possible seizures or other neurological side affects while his body adjusts.
He will then return to his home (which must be within 30 mins of the hospital) and must have a caregiver for the following weeks.
I am the best candidate for the task, since I’m his mom and know his medical history and I have lots of medical experience.
I’d be lying if I said that we weren’t a bit scared of what lies ahead but we are both very confident that he is going to beat this with the help of loved ones, many incredible doctors and nurses, as well as the charitable kindness if others.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for listening to Zack’s story and we invite you to be part of our “Zack Pack”!!!
Thank you in advance for your kindness and God bless!!!❤️
