Since the creation of the Stabat Mater poem in the 13th century, composers have set this beautiful tribute to the Virgin Mary and Jesus in the musical style of their own times. Western NY composer David Butler has completed a new musical setting of the Stabat Mater poem for solo voice and piano that will premiere at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna on Saturday, April 11th at 4:30. That will be a 20 minute free concert right after the vigil Mass for the Feast of Divine Mercy.
JoAnn Falleta calls David’s composition “...beautiful, and very original.” The highly acclaimed musicians, Allison Gish (Mannes Conservatory) on vocals, and Melody Fader (Eastman & Juilliard) on piano, will lead everyone into the depths of the Virgin Mary’s heart as she stood beneath the cross. David Butler’s innovative composition brings this epic medieval text into the 21st century.
David would like to not only invite you to this vigil Mass for the Feast of the Divine Mercy and concert that follows, but also ask you to become involved in this 20 minute world premiere through a donation.
Please become a patron of Catholic fine arts and make a donation here for this great musical and spiritual cause. Any additional funds beyond the premiere's estimated expenses of $8,500 will go towards repairs of Our Lady of Victory’s magnificent pipe organ.
David would like to especially thank in advance those who are involved in making this world premiere possible, and he looks forward to seeing you at the 4:30 pm Mass on April 11th, at Our Lady of Victory Basilica.
