The Wooden Nickel and Diane need your support!



My name is Cheryl and I have worked at the Wooden Nickel for approximately 8 years. Diane and Rick are family to me and I know they are to many of our regular customers. On Monday February 27th Rick passed away due to health complications and it has been absolutely heartbreaking to all involved. For the last 3 years Diane and Rick have had nothing but an uphill battle...owning a restaurant during the pandemic which did nothing but destroy the small restaurant industry. Prior to covid the Wooden Nickel was thriving becoming busier daily due to the hardwork and loyalty Diane and Rick gave to their business. They as owners were thriving so well they were able to donate to multiple causes and community functions many times over. For example they hosted multiple Christmas dinners for the needy and lonely, they were yearly contributors for the firefighter for a day program as well as helped other businesses by donating food. They are so wonderful that at Christmas time they chose to pick a cause or person or family to donate a large lump sum rather than buy for eachother. So now I am reaching out as a long time employee and someone that generally cares and asking that the community of Lake Country contributes back. Diane is in a position that with everything that has happened over the last few years (covid, staff shortages, illness, inflation and now death) she is in risk of losing the community loved Wooden Nickel Café and her and Rick's legacy. Diane is absolutely stubborn with pride and does not want, and has reluctantly agreed with me reaching out for help. Diane needs time to grieve and needs not to worry about extra costs to take time away from the business to do this.
