Having a computer has become vital in the current COVID-19 crisis, but not everyone can afford to buy or borrow a machine.
We're Priority IT - an IT support company based in Westbury, Wiltshire and to help combat the digital divide and support students to continue learning at home during these unprecedented times, we started a refurbishment programme at the end of April 2020.
The programme sought unloved laptops to be donated by businesses and individuals in the community for our team - many of whom are currently furloughed – to securely wipe the data, refurbish and replenish these donated machines.
Since the beginning of May, we’ve refurbished 100 laptops for school children and young people across Wiltshire - giving laptops to schools, children's services, and directly to families who have been in touch.
The response from the local community, and further afield, has been amazing and for that we have been so grateful, but we still have outstanding requests for laptops and machines that require more time and more parts to refurbish them to a good standard.
To ensure our impact is sustainable and can continue, we're now looking to crowdfund the next phase of this project - to fund the upgrading of parts such as hard drives, memory, wifi modules, and, if needed, replace faulty components such as keyboards, screens, and chargers.
Just £30 could help us securely wipe, update, and refurbish one device that will go directly to a young person or family in need, in Wiltshire.
