Hi, I'm Andrene, presently in South Derbyshire but I have enjoyed life on the Isle of Man for a few years. I have a background in healthcare but my heart lies with more natural health and healing approaches.
I've peeled myself from the sea to join the Wildbiome Project 2 which is a citizen science project led by the brilliant Mo Wilde, a medical herbalist, author and forager who lived exclusively on wild food for a year, wrote a book about the experience "The Wilderness Cure "and is now generously facilitating other groups to allow more testing and analysis on the health outcomes of living on a mesolithic diet.
- I'm excited to have this opportunity as for yonks I've dreamed about living self-sufficiently and
- been a forager "groupie", gaining amazing knowledge and supplementing my diet with wild foods to optimise my health and connection with the wild.
- Starting on April Fools Day I'll join a group of volunteer foragers eating only wild edible plants, fungi, and flowers and source fish and wild meat for 12 weeks. There is a 4 week group also but I wanted to immerse myself in this 12 week opportunity.
- I've been learning many wild food processing and preserving skills in advance. I will be recording my meals and undergoing scientific testing during the study to monitor how my body and gut microbiome respond to eating 100% wild food. This is expected to provide insights into both past diets and the future of wild food for health and food security.
- Working with the University of Bradford and University of Rzeszów we will measure everything from gut health to blood sugar and liver function, and much more besides.
- The tests are expensive, so I am aiming to raise £680 to cover the costs of the full medical assessments.
- I'd be thankful for any support in the form of gathered wild food such as nuts, fruits, fresh fish or game or just the price of a cuppa towards the goal.
I will share my progress and will be offering small workshops along the way.
