The Wheeler School's Hope for Haiti Celebration has made a difference in the lives of Haitian children attending the Patriote de la Zone School since 2011. Patriote de la Zone is dedicated to providing educational opportunity to children in Vergeon, a remote community in the mountains of southeastern Haiti. Founded in 2002 by a group of Haitian expats living in Providence RI they commited to building a school where none existed. Since 2010 that school has provided students, now in grades preK - 9 with the opportunity to learn to read and write. Patriote de la Zone is committed to improving the lives of Haitian children through education and the Wheeler School community has played a major role in making that possible.
